How Do I Sell a Domain Name Borker?

When trying to sell a domain, there are a number of different tools and services that you can leverage:

• Independently find someone to buy your domain. An idea is to put up a "For Sale" message on your domain or create an active website and indicate that the domain name is for sale.

• List your domain for sale with a service like Sedo, BuyDomains or Aftermarket.com where you can simply post your domain for sale but not necessarily have it 'brokered' or 'auctioned' (see sections below).

• Work with a Domain Name Broker, a company or individual that connects domain name owners with buyers of domains. Visit various domain name broker websites to familiarize yourself with the service options available. Before making a final decision on a broker, get connected with a representative to evaluate the broker's level of customer service to see if their services match your exact needs.

• Auction off your domain on a brokerage site, on a consumer-based auction site (such as eBay), or in a premium auction. Sometimes in auctions the selling price for a domain name can go above the market value and give you a big win, alternatively, things can go in the opposite direction and there may not be a single bid. However, there are a few things you can do to help improve your odds at selling a domain name through an auction site. If you are selling a quality name, you should leverage a well-known auction site for selling domain names so that investors are more likely to see it. On the other hand, if your domain name has little investment value and it is coupled with a website, using a site with broader reach like eBay may be a more encouraging. A rule of thumb is to be fair and play it safe with auction pricing and tactics (for example, use a reasonable reserve price in your auction) in order to build some early momentum.

In order to increase your options, you may consider combining different types of sales strategy. For example, you may want to work with a broker to list your domain name for sale while simultaneously solicit buyers independently.
